Antifibrinolytic – Prostaglandin Synthesis inhibitor

Composition : Each tablet contains Mefenamic acid 250 mg and Tranexamic acid 500 mg

Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine that exerts its antifibrinolytic effect by blocking lysine-binding sites on plasminogen molecules. This inhibits the interaction of plasminogen and the heavy chain of plasmin with lysine residues on the surface of fibrin. Although plasmin can still form, it cannot bind to and degrade fibrin.

Tranexamic acid is six to 10 times more potent in terms of binding to plasminogen/ plasmin than the other synthetic antifibrinolytic agent E-aminocaproic acid (EACA).

Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities in animal models. The mechanism of action of mefenamic acid, like that of other NSAIDs, is not completely understood but may be related to prostaglandin synthetase inhibition.

MEFCID TA is indicated in menorrhagia associated with pain.
